Which browsers can use the kiosk microphone?

Short answer: Safari and Chrome. In any other browser, like Firefox, Edge or Brave, the microphone doesn't show and people type instead. On an iPad or iPhone, turn on Speech Recognition for Safari or Chrome in Settings first.

On the kiosk, people can tap the big microphone and say their name, email and question once, and the form fills itself in. Typing always works too.

    Where the microphone shows

    • Safari on a Mac, iPad or iPhone
    • Chrome on a laptop, Android phone or tablet, iPad or iPhone

In every other browser, including Firefox, Edge, Brave and Opera, the microphone doesn't show. The form is the same, and people type. We only show the microphone where we've seen it work, rather than offer a button that might not listen.

Setting up an iPad or iPhone

The first time, the device asks about the microphone and speech. Say yes to each. If the microphone says it's off:

    1. Open Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Speech Recognition.
    2. Turn it on for Safari or Chrome, whichever runs the kiosk.

What happens to what they say

Safari turns speech into text with Apple, and Chrome with Google. Loopedn never receives the recording, only the words, and saves only what the visitor checks and submits. See our privacy policy.

Want to try it? Open the kiosk demo in Safari or Chrome.
